How many gallons per mile does a gravel road need?

A 20-foot-wide road is 11,733 square yards per mile, so at 0.35 gal/yd² one mile needs about 4,100 gallons. At 0.30 gal/yd² it's about 3,520 gallons, and at 0.45 gal/yd² about 5,280 gallons.

What is the anti-icing application rate for liquid calcium chloride?

Anti-icing (pre-treatment before a storm) typically runs 20–40 gallons per lane mile, or 0.5–1.0 gallons per 1,000 square feet on lots and walks. Deicing after ice has already bonded takes more — usually 40–80 gallons per lane mile.

Can you over-apply calcium chloride?

Yes. Over-application leaves the surface slick until it cures and wastes product without extending performance. Rate should match surface condition and traffic, not be maximized; a properly graded and crowned road holds a standard rate longer than an over-treated washboarded one.

How long does one dust control application last?

A standard 0.30–0.45 gal/yd² application generally holds through most of a dust season — roughly May through October in northern climates — because calcium chloride is hygroscopic and keeps pulling moisture from the air. High-traffic haul roads may need a mid-season refresher pass.
